The official Battlefield 2 demo is out but don't get your hopes up. EA has done everything wrong with this release so far. First, where's the dedicated Linux server for it? There's rumors floating around that there is one somewhere but nobody seems to know where. Second, they had an exclusive deal with Gamespot.com to host the demo starting at 1pm on Friday. Gamespot's download servers were overloaded by 1:05pm Friday. FilePlanet.com will be permitted to host the demo starting at 1pm on Saturday so you should be able to get it then. And third, the demo does not work with a majority of videocards. The demo requires pixel shader 1.4 and a large number of gamers are still running videocards that only go up to pixel shader 1.3 so for most of us this free demo will cost us around 200 dollars. And fourth they don't have any official support. You have to go to third party sites to get any kind of answers. The full version of the game goes on sale in like two weeks and I think EA has just shot themselves in the foot and lost a couple of million sales.
On a side note, the game developer DICE that bought Trauma Studios, the creators of the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942 which was the driving force behind this new game, told all the former Trauma Studio guys 'If you still want a job you have to move to Sweden.' What the heck is that about.
