Shaka's goin' retro and trying to bring the Commodore 64 back into the mainstream. Check out his latest ad here.
I had high hopes for this one but now after seeing the trailer, it doesn't look that good. Let's just hope it's a badly cut trailer. Check out Bruce Campbell in Bubba Ho-Tep.
One trailer that actually does look like it could be ok is The Rock in The Rundown.
Paul Walker of Fast and the Furious is back in Timeline. Could be ok but doesn't look like a summer blockbuster cast.
And Russel Crowe takes to the seas in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
All of these trailers and more can be found at QuickTime.com.
Check out the full trailer for Underworld.
Doom 3 may not be out till next year but multiplayer Doom 3 will be appearing at QuakeCon this August. Here's a quote:
'What better way to celebrate QuakeCon than to unveil to our fans a preview of DOOM 3 multiplayer,' said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. 'While everyone knows that DOOM 3 is the most terrifying and scary single player experience ever created, multiplayer delivers the intense competitive action that our fans can count on. It's a natural to debut the DOOM 3 multiplayer experience at QuakeCon, the world's preeminent fan-based multiplayer gaming event.'
Oooohhh! Scary scary. (Shack News)
A guy accused me of cheating in my current favorite FPS game because I was using a female model and him being the great gamer that he is thinks the target area for the models is different. I switched to a male model and continued to kick his ass. He snuck out half way through the whoopin'.
HomeLan has links to Activisions's financial quarterly conference call and 2003 release calendar and it looks like we won't see Doom III till 2004. It's penciled in for an early 2004 release at least but id Software has the final say on the actual release date. Quake 4 has also been pushed into 2005. for the full story, check out HomeLan. I made the stats pages a little easier to get to. if you want to see how you are doing on some of the servers I configured, go to dohnetwork.com/stats.
Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi is back in an all-new star-studded adventure. Check out the trailer for Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Check out the official site for more info.
Just finished checking out the new Midnight Club 2 demo. It's a street racing game brought to you by the guys at Rockstar Games that also make Grand Theft Auto. The driving is not up to Nascar/Driver quality and driving around at 150 mph, you would think they would throw in some nice jumps for the big airtime but there aren't many places to get airborn. The game really shines in the multiplayer mode though and could make this one title to own. There's a checkpoint mode and a capture the flag mode that are both hysterical to play with your buddies. If there was a Linux version, I'd boot a server up on Deathcon but you'll have to use the in-game browser to find a server for now. This is definitely one to play at the next Deathcon LAN though. NOPAL, Subotai and I played similar modes on NOPAL's PlayStation2 with quads but we were limited to 2 players and split-screen. Now we can LAN or play online with up to 8 racers. You can also choose between 2 different cars and a motorcycle. If you're in the mood for a fun racer, check out the demo today!
Shweet! The trailer for Deathwatch is online again. I guess it never made it to theaters in the US and is now available on DVD. Check it out in small and large flavors.
Montreal is right in the middle of a big film festival they do every year. Check out the official site, Fantasia Festival, and watch some of the trailers of the featured movies from around the world that usually don't even make it to North America. There's some really good looking movies in there. (Ain't It Cool News)
Been a while since there was any good movie trailers to report. This one looks like it might be pretty good. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There's also a new Jackie Chan movie coming. The Medallion looks like a Golden Child 2. And shweet! A skateboarding movie. Check out Grind. (QuickTime)
Cool. The new config is working on all the SoF2 servers. No more players calling themselves Unnamed Player are allowed on the servers. They have 30 seconds to cahnge their name before they are booted. It's just something that bugs me on the stats pages because all the players that come in calling themselves Unnamed Player end up having their stats lumped together and it throws of the stats. At first I just thought it was newbies that didn't know how to change their names but then I started noticing that some players actually came in with a name and then intentionally renamed themselves Unnamed Player. Well now Punk Buster looks for the name and will make sure you change it. Thanks goes to PunksBusted.com for the info onhow to set this up since Even Balance doesn't provide very much info on their own product. I am also using PunksBusted.com's ban lists too so cheaters should be kept to a minimum.
Enemy Territory fans can now make their own maps with the just released Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory SDK on the Radiant site. Hopefully we'll see some really nice maps coming from the community. The homemade Soldier of Fortune 2 map selection has been pretty disappointing but at least SoF2 has more than 6 maps. We'll have to wait and see what the gamers can come up with. Splash Damage is rumoured to have four more maps that were not finished in time for the release of Enemy Territory which I hope they will release some time soon as theirs are always high quality maps.
Don't know if it was poor sales for the single player only Unreal 2 or what but Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein was spotted on the Atari forums talking about an upcoming patch that will give Unreal 2 owners the ability to play mulitplayer. (GameSpy)
Pandemic Studios, LLC. looks to have a really sharp game coming for the Xbox this year. Full Spectrum Warrior is a cross between the Counter-Strike style games with a Dungeon Seige control system. The game has you controlling two teams of Army soldiers in an Urban Combat scenario with some of the most impressive graphics I've seen in a video game. Check out the trailer on File Planet or the THQ site. (File Planet)
Just got finished checking out the new Tron 2.0 demo. Really nice looking multiplayer demo. Two different modes are available. Lightcycles and Deadly discs. The Lightcycles while really nice looking, I can't see them lasting very long on the gaming scene. It's pretty much benn there, done that. May be good for a couple of rounds at a LAN with your buddies but it gets old quick. It features a tutorial level and a full on deatmatch level with 4 bot racers or a multiplayer with eight friends. There's also a first person shooter mode with those frisbee-like discs you remember from the movie. This could have been the saving grace for the game but the character movement is slow. Controls are limited and there's no way to change the camera angle. All in all, it's a great looking game but I don't see it having much of a shelf life before it's booted to the discount bin. May be good fun for about an hour at a LAN but don't look for it to show up in the GameSpy Top 20 games list. You can download the demo for yourself at 3dgamers.com.
Valve Software has a special deal for File Planet subscribers. Beta test their Steam 2.0 downloading software and you can get Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, and Ricochet for free! Shweet! That should get you pumped up for the upcoming release of Half-Life 2. Get the goods on File Planet. I don't subscribe to File Planet so I can't be sure but there is a line that says 'try both games for free'. Could be they are only demos so if you are not currently a registered subscriber, you may not want to sign up just yet. (GameSpy)
The game servers are coming along nicely on DSL Extreme. I have set up servers for Soldier of Fortune 2, Enemy Territory and Quake 3 now all with the same configs you love on Deathcon. All servers are OSP and can handle at least twice the load of the Deathcon and Bizarre servers. Had a great game of 20 man Enemy Territory last night. ET really shines when you have larger teams. The action was fast and furious and everybody was playing well. It actually got me back into a Wolfenstein mood. Check the DOH! Network servers page for me tonight if you want to get a game on.
If you want to join the Enemy Territory game, you can download the full version online for free at 3dgamers.com.
Check out the trailer for the new Ben Stiller/Jack Black movie, Envy. That would be my luck. (QuickTime.com)
