The big job at work from a couple of weeks ago continues to bug. I had to fix a couple of problems that forced me to end up staying late one night and ruined plans with DairyQueen and we didn't even resolve the problem that night. The problem just disappeared a couple of days later. Stupid site. I still have to do some other junk on it but at least it's not the only thing I work on every day. I redid a popup for another site using some getElementByID and innerHTML stuff that came out pretty cool. It's pretty weak stuff by the standards of the guys that do stuff like Google does but I thought it was really cool.
I've been obsessed this last week with trying to block IP's that have started sending me spam like crazy. I've figured out the sendmail access list is not working like it's suppose to and iptables is the way to go but I have to be careful because I locked myself out of my server this morning when I tried to connect remotely. Luckily I was able to connect from another server and flush the dop list so the site worked again.
I went back to playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I finished the game but there's bonus races you can win to unlock other cars. I am almost to the end but the last couple of time trial races have gotten really hard. Long races with cars that don't handle very well. I need to get the layout of the track memorized so I know when to pitch it sideways before a turn without clipping the inside corner.
Horror movie fans check out www.horrorfestonline.com. A bunch of horror movies that are too gory for mainstream release will get special screenings probably at at least one theater near you. Check out the official Horrorfest website for all the info.
DOH! So much for being done with that stupid big project. It launched last Tuesday and I'm still working on it. The business unit is asking for a bunch of revisions and some things aren't working exactly how they woulda liked it so I have been putting a mess of hours into it trying to fix all the little issues. Want to hear more? yes / no
Now I am working on a script for the registration page to make the agree to the terms and conditions just show some error text instead of making it you have to agree to the terms before the submit button will show up. I was working on a change to the update membership page to make new registrants sign up for the two newsletters and agree to the terms and conditions and came up with a sneaky workaround that won't require the page to refresh to show the error that might work for the registration page. Have to look into that tomorrow.
There's a demo for Battlefield 2142 but no sign of a Linux server yet so I haven't set up any servers yet. Reading the official forum shows there are quite a few issues so it's probably better to hold off trying to set anything up just yet anyway.
I finally finished the big project at work last night. Had to stay at work till 10:30 at night because we were late resolving a few issues and then once it went live, there was a problem with Firefox that nobody noticed until the site went live. DOH! There's still a couple of issues to iron out but nothing major.
Helped Bongoboy get his Apple Airports working so he could get his PC online. The Airports are supposed to be super simple to set up but that was not the case the other day. We spent like an hour trying to figure out how to get the second Airport to distribute IPs to the upstairs computer. He should be online for a game of F.E.A.R. now. We just need to be online at the same time.
The new season of LOST starts tomorrow!!! Woohoo!!!!!
